Cricket Control

Pest, Lawn, and Lake Service in Central Florida

Are you tired of crickets keeping you up at night? Cricket infestations can be a real headache for homeowners in Central Florida. We’re especially familiar with the mole cricket here. Their chirping might seem pleasant to some, but for others, it means there’s an infestation afoot.

These little insects can cause big problems: constant noise that disrupts sleep and peace and damage to fabrics, papers, and even wood. They also attract other pests that feed on crickets, like spiders and bats.

We’ve seen a lot of folks try to solve this on their own with store-bought sprays or traps. But these methods often fall short, leaving some homeowners frustrated and still dealing with crickets. Professional pest control experts, like us at Sorko Services, use targeted treatments to remove current infestations and prevent future ones. Our comprehensive pest control plans address both indoor and outdoor cricket issues.

Professional Cricket Extermination

Getting rid of crickets for good requires professional intervention. When DIY methods fail, it’s time to call in the pros. Here’s why pest control services are more effective:

  • Experts can identify and treat cricket breeding grounds.
  • Professional-grade products provide longer-lasting protection.
  • Special baits and treatments are designed specifically for each cricket species.
  • Technicians can spot potential entry points and seal them off.
  • Precise treatments that focus on their favorite hiding spots.

We at Sorko Services know exactly how to handle cricket infestations by deploying expert treatments and prevention plans.

Types of Crickets

In Central Florida, we deal with several types of these noisy pests. Not all crickets are created equal! We at Sorko Services know exactly how to handle cricket infestations by deploying expert treatments and prevention plans.

Mole Cricket

(Scapteriscus spp.)

Size: 1-1 ½”

Characteristics: Cylindrical-bodied, with small eyes and shovel-like fore limbs

Mole crickets are a common problem for Central Florida lawns and gardens. They tunnel underground and damage grass roots, causing the destruction of large areas of turf.

House Cricket

(Acheta domesticus)

Size: ¾ to 1”

Characteristics: Light yellowish-brown in color with three dark bands on the head

These are the classic chirping crickets that often infest homes. They’re attracted to warm, moist areas and often damage fabrics and paper products when they get close.

Field Cricket

(Gryllus spp.)

Size: ½-1 ½”

Characteristics: dark brown or black bodies

Field crickets can be a problem both outdoors and indoors. They damage crops and gardens, chew on fabrics and paper, and create an overwhelming chorus of chirps.

Camel Cricket

(Ceuthophilus spp.)

Size: ½-1 ½”

Characteristics: Light tan to dark brown; dark bands on back legs, long antennae

These odd-looking crickets prefer dark, damp spaces. They’re often found in basements, crawl spaces, and garages. Camel crickets don’t chirp, but can startle people with their jumping. Large numbers can indicate moisture problems in your home, like leaky pipes.

Southern Ground Cricket

(Allonemobius socius)

Size: less than half an inch

Characteristics: dark brown or black, large compound eyes, long thread-like antennae, enlarged hind femurs, and spiny tibias

These small crickets are commonly found in grassy areas. While quieter than other crickets, can still be annoying, They tend to damage seedlings and young plants in gardens.

DIY Solutions: What Works and What Doesn't

Trying to handle cricket control on your own? Here’s what you need to know: Over-the-counter sprays may kill some crickets but won’t solve the problem long-term, and homemade remedies like diatomaceous earth can help but require frequent reapplication.

So if you’re looking for eco-friendly options, there are some natural methods that can help deter crickets. Plant mint or garlic around your home’s perimeter, or use cedar oil or neem oil as a natural repellent.

It’s important to note that these methods can be part of a larger cricket control strategy but may not be enough on their own.
